INTERVIEW: DJ Doop
http://www.mohiphopblog.com/2017/04/interview-dj-doop.html
DJ Doop is a up and coming DJ from Kansas CIty, Kansas. Watching her DJ is definitely a set you won't forget. She's very charismatic, full of energy and outgoing. And it all translates into her being one of the best young DJ's out. Check out my interview with DJ Doop below.
First thing first, how did you come up with the name DJ Doop?
The name Doop really came from a friend of mine after I told him the story about a classmate calling me Doona Doop, which sparked the stage name of Doona Tha Doopster.
Who and/or what motivated you to become a DJ? How long have you been a DJ?
Out of everything you have done so far, what do you feel is your biggest accomplishment to date?
Are you apart of any DJ coalitions?
What do you feel sets you apart as a DJ?
Are you currently working on any projects?
What is some advice Tha Doop now would give a younger Doop?
My dad, DJ Slick Rick (out of Kansas City) gave me the open-mind of listening to all genres and that sparked my love for hip-hop, rap, blues, pop & r&b at a young age. I've been "playing music" since high school but DJing technically since 2013.
Out of everything you have done so far, what do you feel is your biggest accomplishment to date?
Being respected by the more seasoned DJs in my city and pushed to keep going as a female DJ.
Are you apart of any DJ coalitions?
Not at the moment but a few have reached out and are looking.
What do you feel sets you apart as a DJ?
I think the way I blend and transition different genres, mainstream music to indie artists and the fact that I dance while I DJ (laughs).
I know you've been a dancer for years as well, do you incorporate that into your DJ sets?
Yes, especially when my favorites come on.
When you're not practicing spinning or out spinning at a event, what do you like to do?
Listen to DJ mixes, support others and their events, and lastly hang out with family.
If you could work with anyone, who would it be? Why?
Nobody in particular but I will say that I'm wanting to network with a lot more meaningful people who also support Doop as much as she supports them.
Are you currently working on any projects?
I am working on finishing my #ThisIsKansasCity Vol. 2 mixtape series and I plan on dropping it by the end of the month.
What is some advice Tha Doop now would give a younger Doop?
Secure those bags with the deposits on contracts you never had.
Anything else you want to add/ Any Shoutouts? How can we find you on Social Media?
***Respect the female DJ as much as you respect the men because we are giving them a run for their money!***
